- **What is the notice number?**  LTR5071C
- **What government agency sends this notice? ** The Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
- **What is this notice about? ** The IRS received a federal income tax return filed with your name and taxpayer identification number, and they need you to verify your identity.
- **What should you do if you receive this notice?** 
    - **Verify your identity online: **Go to the [Identity and Tax Return Verification Service](https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-and-tax-return-verification-service) site. You’ll need a government-issued photo ID and to create or sign in to your ID.me account.
    - **Confirm if you filed the return: **If you did, answer questions about the tax return. If you didn’t, let the IRS know you may be a victim of identity theft.
    - **Call the IRS if necessary: **Use the Taxpayer Protection Program hotline listed on your notice if you can’t verify online. Have copies of the notice, the return in question, and a prior year’s return available.

- **How do I verify my identity?** Use ID.me and follow the prompts. You’ll need a government ID and possibly a selfie for verification.
- **What if I can’t verify my identity online?** You can contact the ID.me IRS Help site for assistance, or the IRS may schedule an in-person appointment if online or phone verification isn’t possible.
- **What is ID.me?** It’s a secure online platform the IRS uses to confirm taxpayers’ identities. Once verified, you can access other government services through ID.me as well.
- **What happens if I don’t verify right away?** The IRS won’t process your return or issue any refund until they confirm your identity.
- **What if I can’t verify by phone or online?** The IRS might require you to bring all necessary documents to a local IRS office for in-person verification.
- **What happens after I successfully verify?** The IRS will process your return, but it may take up to nine weeks to receive your refund. If other issues arise, they’ll contact you again.
